Have You Ever Heard About The Idea Of Green Hospital

It is known that hospitals will produce great amount of waste in operation. And a lot of electricity will be consumed. Recently, some people are planning to produce green hospital that will produce electricity from solar energy. All the equipment will be powered in this way, for example the street lights, the indoor lighting and many other equipments.

The primary plans are like this:

•     Installation of power factor panels.

•     Maintaining water quality in condenser and chilled water system.

•     Maintaining water quality in condenser and chilled water system.

•     Replacement of conventional ballast with electronic ballast.

•     Placing VVIF drives on secondary pumps of central air-conditioning.

•     Placing real-time timers on AHUs.

•     Installation of solar water heating system in place of conventional geysers.

•     Using energy savers on windows /split ACs.

•     Installing energy savers on ACs.

•     Installation of bio-gas plant on kitchen waste.

•     Using bio-gas for hot water.

•     Maintaining water quality in central AC plant and boiler areas.

Hence, 350-bed Jehangir Hospital, developed a policy and a firm commitment towards energy conservation. "Bed occupancy, continuous additions of hi-tech equipment, expansion of hospital, number of procedures, investigations, surgical interventions and length of patient stay are some factors that determine the energy consumption in a hospital," enumerates Sandip Kadam, Chief Engineer, Jehangir Hospital.

Energy is one of the major inputs for the economic development of any country. In developing countries like India, energy sector assumes critical importance in view of the ever-increasing energy needs, which require huge investment. As far as the state of Maharashtra is concerned, it has been facing an energy crunch at a day-to-day level. Newspapers are inundated with the numerous statements made by ministers and secretaries about energy shortage in the State, which will probably take another decade to bring the demand and supply at par. Everyday load shedding in different parts of the State has not only affected agriculture production, but industrial and commercial growth as well.

If the program succeeds, we can do much more than building green hospital. The green hospital program will set a great example for our green program. It will become easy to usesolar street lightsand some other some products in all the cities.
